Fabulously Folkster

As you may have guessed I'm a magpie and love all things that sparkle and glitter, and vintage, cant be helped ..so when I first discovered Folkster, it was like the cat that got the cream and tonnes of it!

Shutterbug is based in Kilkenny and I only stumbled upon it on (dare I say it) a hen night a few years back, for a while I was deprived of all the beautiful pieces stocked there. That is until they launched their online website. The thoughts of having access to a fantastic stylists edits from her vintage sourcing trips to New York at a click of a button ..well this made me beyond excited..(lets just say I'm definitely an online buying kinda gal).and even better news is they recently opened Folkster, during the summer ( May 30th to be precise) in Dublin's Eustace Street, in Temple bar.

So here's bit of background on Folkster, Irish stylist, blogger and owner of Shutterbug Vintage (in Kilkenny) Blanaid Hennessy is the woman behind Folkster and she travels around the world sourcing pieces for the store. There's a mix of vintage and brand new beautiful pieces, jewellery, shoes, and pretty things for your home. Not only that but she was one of the first to bring Jeffrey Campbell shoes to Ireland.
The beauty of Folkster is with Blanaid's styling experience, she not only picks up fabulous pieces but shows her customers, how and what ways to style any of the pieces she stocks ...which is like a double bonus!
The fashionista staff are all about helping and advising you, and they are geniuses at what they do and definitely not intimidating.
Leather, beading, old school shapes, and embellishment beauties are definitely some of the items you'll pick up in this store and here's a snippet of what's in stock...

Athlone community school Annual fashion show 22nd October, 2014

So last night I attended a local fashion show organised by the students of Athlone Community College and Geraldine Kenny. I have to say I was pretty impressed with the amount of organisation that went into the whole event.
So firstly what I wore: Tulle Skirt (as before) -Cherish Boutique, Top -H&M, Sequin Cardie-folkster.com Shoes Milanoo (see previous posts on the shoes and absolute bargain!) New look belt

This is an annual event for the college and this year it was held in the Radisson hotel.
It allows the students to model their own creations as they call Junk Couture, and it certainly added a theatrical affair to the evening, not to mention a designer in the making for one of these budding students!
Students from Athlone Community College modelling their own creations.

Models from catwalk modelling agency wore clothes from various stores around the town of Athlone, and the town is not short of boutiques and retail stores, shops included Carraig Donn, Laura Ashley,Olivia Danielle, Penneys, Athlone town shopping centre (Zara, Coast, Monsoon, Oasis, HM, to name a few) Boutique Clodagh, Dunnes Stores, Golden Island Shopping center (including Swamp, Gerard, Penneys amongst others) Kadee Boutique, Dress, Specsavers and Marie Dolan Millinery and the fabulous Just for you boutique.
My main reason for attending was to support my fabulous friend Ewa,proprietor of Just For You, Boutique. Ewa stocks amazing dresses but the beauty of her boutique is the woman is a genius when it comes to advising ladies on their shape, and what style to wear, and how to make the most of every woman's curves. She's a qualified image consultant and has a world of knowledge when it comes to advising ladies on a dress. In case your unfamiliar with her store checkout her facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/Justforyouboutique, her contact details are 0879719216..
Here's a few pics of Ewa s collection in store (she is also a millinery and sells her own pieces in store)

There was an abundance of style on the catwalk and plenty of fabulous clothing, here's a preview of all clothing available from the retailers in athlone.

And not forgetting the students with their funky creations made from recycled materials.
Overall a great night and lovely to see what's available near my home town! And girls it good to support our local retailers!
